Job Title: Freelance Technical Designer, Men’s Wovens
Location: New York, NY
Responsible for ensuring overall quality and fit of men’s woven categories aligned with brand direction, aesthetic and market. Manage the development and fitting of all Outerwear, Swim, Headwear programs from initial development proto’s, salesman samples through to stock in partnership with Design, PD, Production, Merchandising, Sourcing partners and vendors congruent to brand calendar. Manage and mentor Associate Technical Designer.
· PRODUCT MEASUREMENT SPECIFICATION:
Attend seasonal kick off meetings to review approved rigs for initial model direction.
Attend all pre-fit sessions seasonally to identify reference silhouette and/or fit block for each model, drawing from past history where appropriate.
Attend all Design hand off meetings and provide technical feedback with a focus on measurements and construction to achieve desired direction.
Create POM’s, construction and hand off comments for all programs and coordinate with PD for release with relevant direction, samples and reference garments.
Review and analyze blocks/core fits for consistency seasonally. Responsible to identify needs, set up and conduct reviews with design and merchandising as fit direction shifts to gain consensus and provide visibility to cross functional partners.
· FIT APPROVALS :
Manage fit approval process in accordance with sales man samples and stock approval deadlines.
Ensure all fit garments from factories are measured and evaluation sheets have been received and prepared – review with design and development prior to the fitting for streamlined process.
Manage fit schedule to include model booking, managing meeting requests, setting clear and realistic agendas and enter dates into team tracking chart.
Demonstrate an understanding for the brand aesthetic and fit expectations.
Lead product fittings to evaluate balance, silhouette, construction and garment details providing solutions.
Cut, pin and mark up garments as necessary for increased clarity on adjustments. Create diagrams /sketches and pattern corrections where to support revisions.
Independently manage carry over stock approval process.
· FLEX PLM / SYSTEMS:
Create Measurement pages congruent with design and construction in close collaboration with teams.
Maintain Flex PLM and technical database with all updates, graded specifications, fit photographs, technical diagrams / sketches and fit comments.
Responsible to maintain consistent and accurate grade rules and tolerances and supply POM sketches and grading template as appropriate for category at stock approval.
Send and track comments and fit reference samples with sourcing partners.
Maintain digital and physical style reference libraries by category.
· PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT:
Maintain daily communication with partners to help facilitate collaboration on technical fit/construction approvals.
Participate in conference calls with Bologna team partners.
Review and evaluate seasonal roadmaps and partner with sourcing, factories and production to obtain accurate prototype, salesman sample and stock fit garment shipments and approval deadlines. Strategize action plan with Design, PD and Sourcing /vendors to achieve all deadlines.
Attend weekly WIPS meetings to share high level updates or issues.
Attend costing meetings for exposure to cost structure and to suggest ways to improve margin.
Prepare for and attend seasonal line reviews. Thoroughly review samples against tech packs to identify discrepancies for follow up and manage to stock resolution.
Travel to factories for meetings, fittings and to learn more about capabilities or limitations.
Have market awareness and shop seasonally to help inform decisions or provide suggestions.
Continuously assess and evaluate department processes and provide solution based feedback to manager.
Participate in any department special projects.
Promote teamwork by resolving problems and removing barriers that prevent collaboration
- Bachelors Degree in related field.
- 5+ years experience in a luxury technical design function leading live model fittings.
- Draping, pattern making and garment specification experience required.
- Outerwear background preferred.
- Excellent communication and follow up skills with ability to work across cultures and collaboratively.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with high level of attention to detail.
- Effective problem solver and demonstrates initiative, time management skills and flexibility in a change oriented culture.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
- High level of computer proficiency. PLM, MS Office essential. Illustrator /Photoshop required.
- Availability to travel Internationally required.
- Italian language skills a plus.
