Job Title: Freelance Graphic Artist

Position overview:

To create computer based print designs and related artwork based on seasonal and brand direction.

 

Responsibilities:

Research:

  • Research market/vintage resources for new ideas/pattern layouts
  • Work with the brand's internal resources (archive etc) for inspiration and pattern ideas
  • Keep up to date with trends and trend forecasting for both color and pattern                    

Design:

  • Attend seasonal concept meetings and follow direction from Sr. Design to create custom-designed prints for multiple lines.
  • Create, edit and put into repeat prints based on company standards including creation of in house original art layouts, working from drawings, sketches, scanned images or vintage prints and modify existing artwork to create new designs – must have repeat, color separation and colorway expertise
  • Proactive CAD work – continually creating new designs for season-less classification business needs
  • Create color palettes both with physical swatches and on the computer seasonally by brand and maintain a color library
  • Match colors from palette precisely on the printer
  • Follow up on any design-approved cads and work closely with the production team on any necessary information or further development
  • Follow up and coordinate all ongoing projects in order to meet stated deadlines
  • Perform additional duties and assignments as requested by design 

Presentation:

  • Assist on board making for presentation purposes including covering boards, cutting cads, creating labels and researching pictures for a fully thought out presentation
  • Create and upgrade design presentations continuously
  • Maintain current and past season “in boards

Print Archiving:

§  Assist on organizing and updating the print archive, both physically and digitally

Communication with Mills:

§  Work closely with outside CAD resources to make sure they follow precise direction for design, color, presentation and labeling

 Experience/ skills:

  • 3+ years of experience as a Print CAD Designer
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Textile Design
  • Excellent knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for textile design
  • Knowledge of Pointecarre a plus
  • Technical skill proficiency using MS office
  • Strong sense of color, fashion and awareness of print/pattern trends and taste level
  • Strong organizational skills, time management and communication skills
  • Exceptional hand drawing and painting skills
  • Self-motivation with a strong sense of personal accountability
  • Ability to work under pressure in an environment of constantly shifting priorities and deadlines
